Kevin Burton, of NewsMonster and then Rojo Networks, is going at it again with another start-up, TailRank. It's in
alpha beta testing now, and we haven't seen it, but it's apparently a customizable search engine and "recommendation engine for the Long Tail.'' Hmmm.

Blogniscient (http://www.blogniscient.com) has developed and launched a site with a very similar capability to what is described in this post. Blogniscient is a site focused on categorizing and automatically ranking blog articles and blogs based on their impact within the Blogosphere.
Blogniscient has two main objectives. First, it aims to make people's consumption of blog information more efficient. Second, it provides a way for people not previously familiar with blogs a place where they can find some of the valuable information available in a simple to digest manner. Blogniscient uses its Article Ranking System (ARS) to continuously score each of the articles within the blogs as the information propagates throughout the Blogosphere. Blogniscient then presents this information (top blog articles and blogs by category) to the user in a simple yet rich interface. Please don't hesitate to contact me with any questions or comments.

I like the turnaround cycle in The Valley these days. Founders jumping ship to found new startups, while the first company has barely matured at all.
Alas, I think it's a disturbing sign-- clearly the money to be had is in raising it and venture capital, not in actually making sales or profits, of which I'm sure Rojo has very little of.
