Tom Ridge comes to Silicon Valley
Tom Ridge, the first Secretary of the U.S. Department of Homeland Security, is joining the board of directors of Savi Technology, a private Sunnyvale company that provides radio frequency identification (RFID) technology.
Seems like a good fit. Savi sells to both the military and the private sector to help them securely manage their supply chains. Ridge, also former Governor of Pennsylvania, recently left his Homeland Security post -- his move to Savi is his second significant business affiliation, after he joined the board at Home Depot in February.
Ridge is likely to help open doors to government (military) contractors for Savi, which so far has sold only a limited version of its software to Washington. Savi, founded in 1989, also has offices in Washington, Singapore, Johannesburg and Melborne. Through its web-based software, a user can use a "reader" that shows where a cargo container is located, what it contains and what its security status is.
