Energy continued: Spain makes solar mandatory

Our last post touched on the emerging market for VC energy investments. California has fumbled recently on efforts to strengthen its policy on solar installation. But here's Spain, making solar mandatory for new homes. Let's watch how California responds.

California already has a Million Solar Systems plan in mind. See http://www.governor.ca.gov/state/govsite/gov_htmldisplay.jsp?sCatTitle=%20&sFilePath=/govsite/spotlight/august20_update.html.

Governor Schwarzenegger understands the benefits that solar energy can provide to our energy and economy -- while at the same time improving our economy.

The Spanish plan cited an example in which a solar thermal panel (probably to heat hot water for home use) is the technology that is being required. California's plan envisions a more comprehensive set of solar technologies, including photovoltaic and thermal.

The biggest solar challenge in California is keeping up with the explosive market growth in Germany and Japan.
