Symantec CEO joins valley’s jet set(0)

Symantec’s chief executive, John Thompson, joined an exclusive group of Silicon Valley chief executives whose companies now use aircraft they own or control for business use, according to the company’s proxy filed with the SEC Monday.

Former Symantec GM named interim CEO at Corel(0)

kris_hagerman_300dpi.jpg Kris Hagerman, a former a division president in charge of Symantec’s data center management group, has been named interim chief executive at Canadian software maker Corel (despite the conspicuous U.S. flag next to its logo at the company’s Web site). Hagerman was most recently a senior advisor at Vector Capital, which owns 69 percent of Corel’s shares outstanding and which proposed the rest of Corel’s shares for $11 back in March.

Corel’s previous CEO, David Dobson told the company last month that he would be leaving “in order to accept a senior executive position at a Fortune 500 company.”

Corel sells packaged software for graphics and digital media, including WordPerfect. Remember it?

Kendra and Butterfield out in Symantec “realignment”(0)

Symantec let it be known via an SEC filing that group presidents Thomas Kendra and Greg Butterfiled are “no longer serving in such capacity with Symantec effective as of February 20, 2008.” The moves are a result of the fact that Symantec “has realigned its enterprise product groups to improve collaboration across the organization.”

The remaining “line leaders” will report directly to Enrique Salem, who became Symantec’s chief operating officer last month.
