CORNERBACK

For the third time in five years, the 49ers will start a new cornerback tandem, and the favorites are Tramaine Brock and Shareece Wright. Second-year players Dontae Johnson and Keith Reaser will challenge for those spots. Don’t count out Marcus Cromartie, Kenneth Acker and Leon McFadden.

INSIDE LINEBACKER

The surprise retirements of Patrick Willis and his heir apparent Chris Borland have the 49ers praying that NaVorro Bowman can return to form after a 1 ½-year absence. Michael Wilhoite could be pushed by Philip Wheeler, Nick Moody, Desmond Bishop and Shayne Skov.

RIGHT TACKLE

Anthony Davis’ stunning exit in June vaults veteran newcomer Erik Pears into a possible starting role. Guard Alex Boone could be a likelier option than seventh-round draft pick Trent Brown.
