Facebook teams up with Stadium to live stream 15 college football games

Facebook scored another live sports partnership, teaming up with Stadium to broadcast 15 college football games.

The deal with the digital sports network gives Facebook the rights to stream nine Conference USA games and six Mountain West games, according to a press release Wednesday from Stadium.

Financial terms of the partnership were not disclosed.

Like other tech firms such as Twitter, Facebook has been beefing up its offering of live sports this year.

Facebook, which has more than 2 billion users, recently teamed up with with Fox to stream Champions League soccer matches. It also struck a deal with the Major League Baseball to live stream 20 games.

But it’s also facing competition from other major tech firms. Amazon beat out Facebook and Twitter this year and struck a partnership with the National Football League to stream 10 Thursday night football games.

Social media companies say that the live conversations that happens around sports games and other live events add to the experience.

But sports fans might just opt for viewing games on a bigger screen.

Live sports isn’t the only entertainment Facebook is trying to add to the social network as it tries to get more users to watch and post video on its site.

This month, the tech firm said it was testing a new video platform called “Watch” so users can discover shows that are popular among their friends and family.

The first game Stadium is broadcasting on Facebook is scheduled on Sept. 2 with Miami Ohio at Marshall and UC Davis at San Diego State University.

On Sept. 23, the company is also live streaming a game between Utah State University and San Jose State University.
