Latest ‘Game of Thrones’ episode leaked, but not part of recent HBO hack

Fans of “Game of Thrones,” shield your eyes. This week’s episode of the HBO hit show was leaked on the internet Friday morning.

The episode, which circulated on Reddit, was watermarked with a logo of a distribution partner in India. The partner, Star India, confirmed the episode has been leaked from its end.

“We take this breach very seriously and have immediately initiated forensic investigations at our and the technology partner’s end to swiftly determine the cause,” a Star India spokesperson told The Verge. “This is a grave issue and we are taking appropriate legal remedial action.”

The Verge also confirmed that the episode was not part of the HBO hack earlier this week. The “Game of Thrones” script for the now-leaked episode and two unreleased episodes of other HBO shows were leaked from that hack.

The HBO hackers claimed to have obtained 1.5 terabytes of data from the company and promised to leak more in the coming weeks.

“The problem before us is unfortunately all too familiar in the world we now find ourselves a part of,” wrote HBO CEO Richard Plepler sent an email to HBO employees, according to Entertainment Weekly. “As has been the case with any challenge we have ever faced, I have absolutely no doubt that we will navigate our way through this successfully.”

Thanks to its global following, “Game of Thrones” has been targeted by hackers before. The first four episodes of Season 5 were leaked in 2015, after HBO sent preview copies to the press. It is unclear how the episodes were leaked.
