Eric Schmidt’s daughter Alison dead after a long illness

Alison Schmidt, an adult daughter of Google parent firm Alphabet’s executive chairman Eric Schmidt, has died.

The news came June 9, from the foundation set up by Schmidt and his wife Wendy.

Alison Schmidt passed away recently after a long illness, the Schmidt Family Foundation said on its website.

News of her passing spread quickly on social media the afternoon of June 9, after James Fallows, a writer for The Atlantic, issued his condolences on Twitter.

“Sad news: very sorry to learn that Alison Schmidt, daughter of our longtime friends Wendy & Eric Schmidt, and sister of Sophie, has died,” Fallows tweeted.

“Deb and I send love and sympathies to Wendy, Eric, and Sophie.”

The Schmidt family is making arrangements for a private memorial service, according to the foundation, which said it was not releasing information about Alison Schmidt or her passing, in deference to her loved ones’ privacy.

Schmidt, 61, is a former CEO of Google.
