President Trump’s speech set Twitter record with 3 million tweets

For someone who loves to use Twitter to get his messages out, President Donald Trump will probably be pleased with how busy people were tweeting about his speech before Congress Tuesday night.

Twitter said its users sent out 3 million tweets about the speech Trump gave before a joint session of Congress, making it the most-tweeted such address in Twitter’s history. The previous record had been 2.6 million tweets sent out when former President Barack Obama delivered his 2015 State of the Union address.

While sticking to many of the same themes that defined his presidential campaign, and the first month of his administration, Trump was seen as being a little less strident and confrontational than during his Inaugural Address, or in some of his public statements since becoming president.

The most-tweeted-about moment during Tuesday’s speech was when Trump reiterated that he wants Congress to repeal the Affordable Care Act, better known as Obamacare. Trump’s honoring of Carryn Owens, the widow of fallen Navy SEAL William “Ryan” Owens, was the second-most tweeted item in Trump’s speech.

When it came to re-tweets, one of Trump’s calls for unity took the top spot.
