Tesla killer coming from troubled Faraday Future in January?

Something new is coming from secretive and troubled electric car company Faraday Future, and a just-released teaser video suggests the firm is poised to take on Tesla, Ferrari and Bentley.

Chinese-backed Faraday, which wants to build a factory on Mare Island in Vallejo, has been promising a revelation Jan. 3 at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas.

Now, the company has released a short video clip that appears to show the subject of that approaching revelation. The clip shows a car, shrouded in black fabric, in starting-line scenes at a test track, matched up one-on-one against a Tesla, a Ferrari and a Bentley. Faraday’s vehicle appears to be a low-slung SUV.

“We think the new electric SUV is gunning straight for the Tesla Model X, a vehicle that’s both bonkers-fast and also rather practical,” website Ars Technica speculated. “And we think the inclusion of Bentley’s Bentayga as another rival means a more upmarket interior than the rather barebones Tesla.”

Faraday badly needs to succeed with the new vehicle, reports about its financial health suggest. “It’s hemorrhaging money and owes millions of dollars in bills; its main investor, LeEco, is losing all its money; the contractor building its factory ‘halted work’ in mid-November; six of its top executives left the company in October,”  according to news site Inverse.
