Iron Man volunteers to be voice of Mark Zuckerberg’s Jarvis

In case Mark Zuckerberg had any lingering doubts about whether he’s truly made it, Iron Man surely has put them to rest.

When the Facebook CEO asked for suggestions Thursday about who should be the voice of Jarvis, the AI personal assistant he created, actor Robert Downey Jr. raised his hand.

Zuckerberg’s response: “This just got real.”

In case you’re not immersed in the world of Marvel: Downey Jr. plays Iron Man. Actor Paul Bettany is the voice of Jarvis, Iron Man/Tony Stark’s all-knowing robot assistant. Benedict Cumberbatch stars in the upcoming “Dr. Strange.”

And in case you’re not immersed in the world of Zuck, the Silicon Valley billionaire and founder of the world’s largest social network sets a personal challenge each year. In January, he wrote that his challenge this year was to “build a simple AI to run my home and help me with my work. You can think of it kind of like Jarvis in Iron Man.” His previous challenges include learning Mandarin, killing his own meat, reading a couple of books a month.

But back to who should be the voice of Jarvis: Other suggestions from the many commenters include Morgan Freeman, Samuel Jackson, James Earl Jones, Michelle Obama and none other than the Governator himself, Arnold Schwarzenegger — who last year entertained users of the Waze app in connection with a movie promotion.

By the way, Iron Man has another Silicon Valley connection: Downey Jr. has said he modeled his portrayal of Tony Stark on Tesla and SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
