Elon Musk: Tesla to lift the veil on new products this month

After releasing robust vehicle delivery figures last week, Tesla expects to roll out more products over the next two weeks.

CEO Elon Musk posted on social media the company would unveil an “unexpected” product on Oct. 17. Cross-selling EVs with Martian trips? Moon roofs with planetarium displays? One report suggests the electric automaker may try an all-solar roof for the Model S and Model X.

Another media release is slated for Oct. 28, with SolarCity and Tesla joining for a new collaboration. Musk has touted the synergies between the two companies – where Musk is chairman (SolarCity) and CEO (Tesla) – as a proposed merger goes before regulators and shareholders.

Musk’s tweets seemed to encourage investors, who drove the stock up in Monday trading.

Tesla last week announced it delivered 24,500 vehicles, the highest ever for a quarter. The manufacturer still has work to do to reach a revised goal of delivery about 79,000 vehicles this year.

It plans to pick up production even faster to handle orders for the Model 3, a new sedan priced at $35,000 and due out late next year. Tesla submitted plans to the city of Fremont for a massive expansion of its manufacturing plant. The prospects could add 3,100 more jobs to the site and nearly double the size of the factory.
