Happy birthday, Alphabet. Now say goodbye to one of your top executives.
Bill Maris, CEO and founder of Google Ventures (now known as GV), has said he s leaving the company to pursue new opportunities. The news broke Wednesday on the one-year anniversary of the birth of Alphabet — the Google parent company Larry Page and Sergey Brin created as a way to emphasize business interests beyond web search.
As a birthday present, Alphabet is losing the creator of GV, its corporate venture capital arm, Recode reported. The tech blog reported that Maris will be replaced by David Krane, a GV managing partner.
Maris confirmed his departure to Fortune, saying it s time for a new adventure. After eight years with GV, Maris intends to spend the next few months enjoying time with his wife and son, Fortune reported.
GV had $2.4 billion in assets at the beginning of the year, according to Fortune. It s portfolio includes Uber, Nest, Jet and Medium, according to the GV website.
Maris departure from Alphabet comes after a string of other executives have jumped ship. In recent months the company also lost Nest CEO Tony Fadell and director of Alphabet s self-driving car project Chris Urmson.
