Facebook said Wednesday that more than 1 billion people use its standalone messaging app every month, another milestone for the social media giant.

“There’s a lot more to do — and a lot more coming soon — but this is another step on the journey to connect the world,” wrote Facebook CEO and founder Mark Zuckerberg in a post about the topic.

Facebook Messenger made its debut in 2011, but in 2014 the tech firm started requiring that users download a separate app to use the instant messaging feature. At that time, some users were hesitant to do so because of privacy concerns, though the company tried to ease these fears.

Since then, the company has been making a stronger push into messaging, adding more features to the app. That’s included giving people the ability to send money, contact businesses, book car rides, play games and more.

The company also released a video celebrating the milestone. About 22 million GIFs are sent every day, the most downloaded sticker pack is Angry Birds and users have played 1.2 billion games of basketball, according to the video.

David Marcus, who leads Facebook’s messaging efforts, said on the social media site that he was feeling thankful for reaching 1 billion users on Messenger.
