Elon Musk’s tweet Sunday teasing some sort of master plan for Tesla that he’s planning to unveil this week is raising eyebrows — and the company’s stock price.
Working on Top Secret Tesla Masterplan, Part 2. Hoping to publish later this week.

“Part 2”? A decade ago, Musk revealed Tesla’s plan to mass produce electric cars, saying in an August 2006 blog post that “our long term plan is to build a wide range of models, including affordably priced family cars.” At the time, Tesla Motors was only known for its high-priced sports car, the Roadster, which it publicly unveiled the previous month. The post, titled “The Secret Tesla Motors Master Plan (just between you and me),” was talking about what later became the Model S, and the yet-to-be-produced Model 3.
Fast forward to 2016, as Musk and company/ies are dealing with: Unprecedented demand to deliver its cheapest car, the Model 3, by the end of next year, while also producing its Model S and Model X; a fatal crash in a Model S in Autopilot mode, said to be the first involving autonomous-vehicle technology in the U.S.; a proposal for Tesla to buy SolarCity, which is chaired by Musk; and more. Last week, the company said it missed its second-quarter delivery target.
Tesla shares are up about 4.5 percent to $226.50, proving once again that when Musk tweets, Wall Street listens. In 2016, shares of the Palo Alto company have fallen as low as $143.67 and climbed as high as $265.42.
Reaction to Musk’s tease runs the gamut.
