Silicon Valley remembers Andy Grove

As my colleague Steve Johnson writes in his excellent obit, Andy Grove was a legendary Silicon Valley pioneer who helped “mold Intel into a multibillion-dollar Goliath and the world’s biggest semiconductor company.”

Grove, who died Monday at the age of 79, left an outsize impression on the Valley’s soul. And with his passing the Hungarian-born chief executive of a global powerhouse now takes his place among fellow luminaries who have gone before him, including Apple co-founder Steve Jobs and David Packard, who with his partner William Hewlett founded their own powerhouse in HP.

This week, many in the Valley’s tech community are remembering Grove as a steady guiding light who helped put the region on the map as a crucible of innovation, risk-taking and unbending passion for new technology.

Here are what some in Silicon Valley are saying about their departed colleague:

“RIP Andy Grove. The best company builder Silicon Valley has ever seen, and likely will ever see.”
