Laurene Powell Jobs prepares to build new home

Laurene Powell Jobs is nearing getting the approval she needs from the Woodside planning commission to build the family dream home, VentureBeat reports.

The plans include “an agricultural wonderland where the family would be able to raise livestock, press olive oil, make wine, and plant a large vegetable garden.” Last month, the Woodside Town Council approved Powell Jobs’ plan to merge two adjoining parcels.

The new property would include a 3,706-square foot home, a yoga studio, sauna, hot tub, plunge pool, swimming pool, two guest houses, a wine press building, a olive press building, a garden shed and garden barn.

According to VentureBeat:

In general, the estate will be well-hidden from public view, set far back from the main roads and surrounded by old-growth trees, to ensure maximum privacy. But there will still be layers of privacy within that privacy. For instance, a large basement under the house allows residents and visitors to access the nearby yoga studio underground.

The home will be built on the former site of the Jackling House, a mansion that Steve Jobs, Apple’s co-founder, fought to have torn down. In 1984, Jobs bought the estate and home, which was built in the 1920s, and lived there for a decade. When he tried to have it torn down, he met resistance from Woodside preservationists who organized as Uphold Our Heritage.

In 2011,  the house was demolished after a court battle. Jobs died in October of that year of pancreatic cancer.

Now it appears that Powell Jobs is moving ahead with plans. Woodside planning and architectural review boards have approved the project. The necessary zoning change should be finalized in the next 30 days, Woodside’s planning director, Jackie Young, told VentureBeat.

Then, Powell Jobs will have to seek building permits before construction. The project is expected to take more than 500 days to complete.
