Quoted: What type of boss is Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer?

“Marissa is the type of boss that makes you feel like you’re disappointing her at all times, so I always feel like I’m on the verge of being fired.”

Jeff Bonforte, Yahoo’s senior vice president for communications products. But Bonforte tells the New York Times that Yahoo CEO Marissa Mayer is also the best boss he’s ever had, and that he has no plans to join the recent exodus. The New York Times reports that a third of the Sunnyvale company’s workforce has left in the past year, and echoes other reports that Yahoo is about to announce even more job cuts. Employees are “losing faith in Marissa Mayer and Yahoo,” according to Scott Dobroski of Glassdoor, a site that collects employee-submitted data about jobs and employers.

Mayer, the former Google executive who was hired as Yahoo CEO in 2012, has also lost the faith of some vocal investors, including Starboard Value. As I wrote last week, the hedge fund wants an overhaul of Yahoo management and possibly its board because it believes the company needs “dramatically different thinking” in order to compete for a slice of the online advertising pie with the likes of Facebook and Google.

Yahoo told the New York Times that it continues to hire, and that its “application numbers are strong.”
