Breaking News

Anonymous has launched an offensive against Donald Trump over the presidential candidate s plan to ban Muslims from entering the United States.

A Twitter account belonging to the hacktivist group tweeted this morning that the group had taken down the Trump Tower New York website. Other media reports indicate the site was down for about an hour, but it is now accessible again.

In a video posted to YouTube this week, a person wearing a Guy Fawkes mask reads a statement that says in part: Donald Trump, it has come to our attention that you want to ban all Muslims to enter the United States. This policy is going to have a huge impact. This is what ISIS wants. The more Muslims feel sad, the more ISIS feel that they can recruit them.

Anonymous last month declared war on ISIS after the deadly Paris attacks. As I wrote then, the hacking collective said it would step up its efforts against the Islamic State, which has included trying to get its many Twitter accounts shut down. It also has declared today ISIS trolling day, encouraging people to mock ISIS on social media.

Anonymous — which has adopted famed English revolutionary figure Hawkes as a mascot — has targeted governments, law enforcement, corporations and individuals. Over the years, the hacking collective has launched denial-of-service attacks on websites and sometimes released personal information about its targets. Last month, it released information about alleged KKK members.

Here s the video announcing the group s targeting of Trump:
