Facebook CEO and co-founder Mark Zuckerberg voiced his support for the Muslim community in a post on the social network on Wednesday.
If you re a Muslim in this community, as the leader of Facebook I want you to know that you are always welcome here and that we will fight to protect your rights and create a peaceful and safe environment for you, he wrote.
The 31-year-old tech mogul s comments comes days after Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump said he wanted to temporarily bar Muslims from entering the United States in the wake of the Paris terror attacks and the San Bernardino shootings, which law enforcement officials are investigating as an act of terrorism.
Zuckerberg, who is currently on paternity leave after the birth of his daughter Max, is also one of the founders of the political action immigration group Fwd.us, which is gearing up for the 2016 presidential election.
The group is advocating for a pathway to citizenship for 11 million undocumented immigrants currently living in the United States who do not have legal status.

Meanwhile, U.S. lawmakers are calling on tech companies including Facebook and Twitter to do more to spot terrorist activity on social networks. Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., and Senate Intelligence Committee Chairman Sen. Richard Burr, R-N.C., reintroduced a bill on Tuesday that would require technology companies to report online terrorist activity to law enforcement.
