Educational toy maker VTech hacked. Personal information of 5 million customers, including kids, affected.

In 2015, Apple spent 3.5 percent of its revenue on R&D, compared with Google’s 15 percent and Facebook’s 21 percent.

BlackBerry shutting down its Pakistan operations after country wanted to monitor all business enterprise server and email messages.

Swatch and Visa team up on payments by smartwatch.

A couple of ICYMI items:

  • Facebook expanded parental leave benefits (to four months paid time off) after CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced last week that he’d be taking two months off after his baby is born. (Company announcement)
  • Judge throws out lawsuit against Yelp. The suit claimed the company misled users about the authenticity of its reviews, and that Yelp reviews favored advertisers.
