Oracle announced plans Tuesday to build a public charter high school on its Redwood City campus.
The tech company s CEO Safra Catz said it will complete a 64,000-squre-foot Design Tech High School in 2017. The school will stress design thinking and problem solving skills.
Design Tech launched in San Mateo Union High School District in 2014 as a public charter high school.
The new school will be a state-of-the-art, LEED certified building for 550 students and 50 faculty, Catz said in an announcement made at OpenWorld in San Francisco, the company s annual trade show.

Oracle also works with students on science, technology, engineering, arts and math disciplines through its Oracle Volunteers.
Catz said Oracle founder Larry Ellison told her 17 years ago that he wanted to have a school where students learn to think.
