Intel is quadrupling its fertility benefit for employees, joining other tech companies that have expanded fertility and adoption benefits for workers.

The company announced Tuesday that it was making the changes to increase our diverse talent and broaden our family. Earlier this year, Intel expanded its family leave benefits.

Intel s changes cover two areas:

  • :  Intel removed the medical diagnosis requirement for fertility benefits, making conception services available to all employees, including same-sex couples. Starting in 2016, the new benefit will be $40,000 for medical services, up from $10,000. For prescription expenses, Intel will pay out $20,000, up from $5,000 in 2015.
  • : removed the lifetime spending cap for adoptions, a benefit it launched in 2009. In 2016, it is tripling its adoption benefit to $15,000 per adoption, up from $5,000 in 2015. It removed the limit of number of children an employee can seek to adopt.

Last year, Apple and Facebook faced a cascade of criticism over their support of egg-freezing, something critics said was creepy and intended to delay women from having children, as I wrote about then.
