Struggling to maintain a decent visibility in a crowded and Trump-dominated field of Republican presidential candidates, Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky has decided to pull out all the digital stops and livestream his entire day today on the campaign trail.

And, no surprise, he announced his historic move in a little tweet, short and sweet:

Tomorrow I am excited to bring my message of liberty to the country as the first Pres. candidate to live stream an entire day.

Promoting the stunt on social media platforms under the hash tag #RandLive, the candidate s goal was a lofty one, said Vincent Harris, his chief digital strategist, quoted in Rare.

It will be the Rand Paul campaign s version of The Truman Show or EdTV. The campaign will stream every event and give unprecedented behind the scenes access to Senator Paul and what life is like on the trail in our nation s first state to vote. We re very excited about the ability to reach voters, especially younger voters who have come to expect this kind of digital interaction from their candidates.

Paul s campaign is offering its livestream through its Facebook and UStream.tv pages, Rare reported.

Unfortunately, when we went here to see what the senator was up to, we were greeted by a dead screen with a notice that read: #Randlive will return shortly.

Which of course begs the question, how can you be livestreamed all day long when you re not?

Meanwhile, Rand fans were told that if they liked the lawmaker s official Facebook page they d get a notification once the stream was up and running.

The livestream, assuming it s there in the not-too-distant future, could help demonstrate Rand s digital bonafides to the world. As Paul spokesman Sergio Gor told Mashable, Our campaign has always believed in engaging the maximum amount of voters from across the nation. Not only are we engaged on every social platform from Snapchat to Facebook and from Periscope to Vine, we want to offer an embedded experience to those who wonder what happens throughout the day.
