More than a decade after transforming media consumption with its Google News website, the Mountain View search giant is once again pushing publishers to get up to speed — this time on the mobile Web.

The Accelerated Mobile Pages Project, launched as a demo (on mobile devices only) Wednesday, is designed for faster loading of news pages viewed on mobile devices.

The service is Google s answer to Facebook s Instant Articles and similar services from Apple and Snapchat. The fast loading will affect not just searches from Google, but also from news stories found through technology partners including Twitter, LinkedIn, Pinterest and WordPress. Google has also partnered with more than 30 publishing partners, including BuzzFeed and the BBC.
