SolarCity will begin manufacturing new, high-efficiency rooftop solar panels this month that produce up to 40 percent more energy than other standard-sized panels.
SolarCity is scheduled to begin production on new, high-efficiency solar panels this month at their Fremont factory.
The company announced Friday the new product, built with denser collection of solar cells and more efficient panel structure, would generate more power per square foot than any other rooftop panels on the market.
The solar company claims the panels will drop cost-per-kilowatt significantly, helping the company remain competitive though potential regulatory changes.
We re building the world s most efficient rooftop solar panel in the United States, said company spokesman Jonathan Bass. The new hardware is the same size as standard panels, but produce between 30-40 percent more power.
The panels will be produced in the U.S., initially at the company s Fremont plant and later at their Buffalo, NY factory. Bass said the new product would support manufacturing jobs in California and western New York.
