Facebook opens first office in Thailand

Facebook is opening its first Thailand office, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg said on Thursday.

About 34 million Thais use Facebook and post three times more than the global average, Sandberg wrote in a Facebook post.

Dan Neary, vice president of Facebook Asia Pacific, told The Nation that the company is searching for a manager to lead the social network’s business in that region.

“The office opening builds upon our commitment to Thailand and reiterates our investment in supporting the growth of Thai business, and making it easier for consumers to connect with each other and business,” Neary told The Nation.

Facebook also has offices in Taiwan, India, South Korea, Indonesia and other countries in the Asia-Pacific region, according to the company’s career page.

The social network company isn’t the only tech firm that is trying to gain a stronger foothold in Asia and outside the United States. Twitter is also expanding advertising globally and making a stronger push to partner with media in the Asia Pacific and Middle East.

From April to June, Facebook raked in $623 million from the Asia Pacific, a figure that has been steadily growing since 2013, according to its second-quarter earnings.
