Tesla’s Elon Musk talks space and nuking Mars on Late Show with Stephen Colbert

Add another reason why it’s good to be Elon Musk.

The billionaire entrepreneur squeezed in an appearance Wednesday night on the Late Show with Stephen Colbert. Musk, wearing a black tuxedo jacket and white shirt, was among the guests on the second night of Colbert’s new show. The other guests were Scarlett Johansson and rapper Kendrick Lamar.

The man behind Tesla Motors, PayPal, SolarCity and SpaceX broke no news about his companies, space travel or another appearance in an Iron Man movie.

But Musk shared his belief that Mars could one day become a habitable planet for humans. He floated an idea for making the red planet warmer. “The fast way is to drop thermonuclear weapons over the poles,” Musk said and laughed.

“You’re a super-villain,” Colbert answered. “That’s what a super villain does.”

Musk took the joking in stride, correcting the comedian when he called him one of the CEOs of SpaceX. “The CEO,” Musk said.

Palo Alto-based Tesla is poised to release its new vehicle, the Model X, later this month. The crossover SUV is slated to roll off the Fremont factory production line on Sept. 29.

Colbert admitted he’s a Tesla owner and fan. But he wasn’t sold on the robotic charger, a snake-like plug-in for the electric vehicles. After watching a video demonstration, the host asked, “Is that going to attack me when I’m asleep?”

“For the prototype, at least,” Musk said, “I would recommend not dropping anything while you’re near it.”

I think Elon Musk is the best hope for a new age. If I were a good deal younger I would sacrifice anything to be part of his vision. At 62 all I can do is cheer him on!

  • In Stephen Colbert’s Sept. 9th interview with Elon Musk the joke… “For the prototype, at least,” Musk said, “I would recommend not dropping anything while you’re near it.” was a setup for the HOMOPHOBE in the shower who drops his soap and bends over to pick it up amongst pork swords and sneaky snakes joke. Stephen didn’t catch that one.

I think he did! As far as giving up is concerned, you have to pick your battles! My 2 felonies preclude me from any jobs involving the federal guvmnt. You can’t escape your past no matt how distant it is.

Your comment was 2 years ago now. It looks like babau was not the one in denial.
