Boy, it s been a busy month for Google.
First, they launch Alphabet, the new holding company for all-things-Google
Next, they shake up the font of their fanciful home page with a flatter, cleaner and, forgive me, more boring Google logo.
And now those digital alchemists at the Googleplex have come up with: i m feeling curious.
Type those words in the search bar and see what happens. Go ahead, we ll wait.
Fun, no? You type i m feeling curious into the search bar, or even just im feeling curious if you re feeling really rebellious, and – Voila! – you are instantly served up some random bit of information that you can then use to win friends and defeat enemies, no matter where your etymological adventures take you.
It s just good ol Google being good ol Google.
So here we go, all together:
In my three attempts, I learn that:
1. The SMS concept was developed in the Franco-German GSM cooperation in 1984 by Friedhelm Hillebrand and Bernard Ghillebaert. The first text message was sent in 1992 from Neil Papworth, a former developer at Sema Group Telecoms.
2. Garfield was the first left-handed president of the United States. James Garfield could write Latin with one hand and Greek with the other, at the same time.
3. The number of bones that a typical human skeleton consists of. Go ahead, take a guess. Don t worry if you get it wrong, because you weren t the one feeling curious. I was. So go ahead. I dare you!
Give up. OK. Here you go:
A typical adult human skeleton consists of 206 bones, not counting many small and often variable sesamoid bones and ossicles. Individuals may have more or fewer bones than this owing to anatomical variations. The most common variations include additional (i.e. supernumerary) cervical ribs or lumbar vertebrae.
And here s the real McCoy:
