Elon Musk tweeted this afternoon the first Model X production cars will be handed over from Tesla Motors Fremont plant on (drum roll, please)…Sept. 29.

The first Model X vehicles rolling off the production line list for $132,000. The cost, Musk explained, is because these signature models come fully loaded. Features include leather interior, wood or carbon fiber trim and an autopilot feature with self-parking and automatic lane steering.

Musk tweeted that the base Model X will cost $5,000 more than the Model S due to greater size & body complexity.

An early look at Tesla Motors Model X.

The Tesla Motors chief had promised the Model X would be released in September. Tesla Motors Club message board lit up Tuesday when the automotive company emailed prospective owners to configure their new models.

My excitement knows no bounds, wrote one owner. Others puzzled over the seat, door and cup-holder designs.

The crossover SUV has a falcon wing door design and seats eight. And those eight passengers can drive very, very fast – the Model X reaches 155 mph at top speed and gets to 60 mph in under 4 seconds, according to Tesla.
