Google unveiled a new logo Tuesday.

The color scheme (blue-red-yellow-blue-green-red) is the same as it s been since 1998, but the letters have thickened since the last tweak two years ago. The biggest difference is in the second g, which loses the figure-8 shape it s had since 1999 and adopts a simpler, kindergarten-style form. Which is not unlike the style used for Google s new parent company, Alphabet.

Designers created the new typeface, which they call Product Sans, in collaboration with professional typographers.

The logo is part of a new brand family that includes moving dots and a new standalone g logo.

We re bidding adieu to the little blue g icon and replacing it with a four-color G that matches the logo, the company said in a statement.

They announced the change to Google users through an animated Doodle on the home page and this video:
