A Facebook tool called Notes that allows people to write and publish blog posts on the social network is getting a makeover.

We re testing an update to Notes to make it easier for people to create and read longer-form stories on Facebook, a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement to SiliconBeat on Monday.

Only a small number of people are able to access the upgrade as part of the test, which includes a more modern design and other features such as adding a cover photo, tagging people, resizing photos and adding links or hashtags.

The company declined to say when the testing period will end and when or if it will become available to the general public.

Here s what publishing a Note currently looks like:

Facebook first released Notes in August 2006, but the design has stayed relatively the same.

Some people, including New York software developer Dave Winer, have compared the redesign to the blog-publishing platform Medium.

Facebook notes have a new Medium-like appearance. (See comments on this note.)
