Yahoo has hired Martha Nelson, a longtime Time Inc. editorial executive, to be global editor-in-chief of Yahoo Media.

Nelson had been Time Inc. s first female editor-in-chief, but she lost the job in 2013 after less than a year at the helm when the New York media giant eliminated the editor-in-chief position. She first began working at Time in the early 1990s, founding the company s InStyle Magazine and later managing People magazine.

She joins Yahoo in mid-August, working in the New York office and reporting to Kathy Savitt, who has dual roles as chief marketing officer and head of media.

Asked if Yahoo Media includes Yahoo News, Yahoo Finance and the Yahoo News Digest app, spokeswoman Becky Auslander wrote that we don t comment on internal structures but Martha s focus will be on our digital magazines.
