In an update released today, Instagram has given users new ways to access the more than 70 million photos and videos posted on Instagram every day.

A new explore page will showcase photos from trending locations, such as Madison Square Garden and Disney s Magic Kingdom. It will also highlight trending hashtags, such as #nationalpinkday and the newly released #arkhamknight video game. Finally, users will be able to scroll through curated assortments of photos from popular Instagram feeds, such as collections with extreme athletes  or tower rocks.

An upgraded search function has also been added, where users can search for particular locations, not just people or hashtags. Previously, when searching for Yellowstone National Park, users would find the official Yellowstone Instagram page or photos with the Yellowstone hashtag. Now, users can search for the actual Yellowstone location and view the latest and most popular photos from that location.

These new features allow users to keep in touch with current trends and happenings, something Instagram has always wanted to achieve.

This is our North Star—what we ve been shooting for all along, Instagram cofounder and CEO Kevin Systrom said in an interview with Wired. It s a real-time visual pulse for what is happening in the world.
