Apple will soon be resurrecting a portion of Ping, the unloved and long gone social networking feature in iTunes.

s Apple blog site 9to5Mac reported Wednesday. The feature, dubbed Artist Activity, will allow artists to post photos, videos and track samples, according to the report. Consumers will be able to like and comment on those posts.

The feature is similar to what users could do with Ping, which Apple launched to great fanfare in Fall 2010 but then quietly killed two years later after it drew little use from consumers.

Unlike with Ping, the new feature will not provide consumers with their own individual profile pages.

Apple is expected to unveil the new feature and its new streaming music service, to be called Apple Music, according to 9to5Mac, at its annual developer conference in San Francisco next month. The service is based on Beats Music, a streaming service that Apple acquired last year.
