If you re in the wireless charging business, expect big paydays for the next five years as the industry grows at record rates.
Wireless charging of devices like smartphones and tablets will surge forty-fold in the next five years, the global analytics firm IHS is predicting.
In a report released Wednesday IHS said revenue from wireless power transmitters and receivers will soar to $8.5 billion in 2018 from $216 million in 2013. Revenue will hit $785 million this year, the firm predicted.
Makers of smartphones and tablets increasingly are integrating wireless power functionality directly into their phones, the company s principal analyst for wireless power, Ryan Sanderson, said in a press release.
Already integrating wireless charging in their products are Nokia, Google with its Nexus 4 and 5 smartphones and Nexus 7 tablet; Samsung s Galaxy S3 and S4 smartphones, IHS said.
