If you’re a WWE fan and can’t make it to this Sunday’s big event at Levi’s Stadium, or shell out the cash for pay-per-view, Facebook is offering the next best thing: You can check out exclusive video and other related content on the social network.
That’s right, ring entrances and clips from matches at WrestleMania 31 could be as close as your cell phone or computer screen. The Facebook-WWE partnership, according to Variety, will bring “near real-time event highlights during the telecast of the annual event.”
WWE fans are no strangers to follow wrestling goings-on on Facebook: The WWE’s page has more than 24 million Likes.
The partnership between the WWE and Facebook fits with the Silicon Valley company’s big push into video. Our Mike Murphy wrote in December about Facebook’s deal with the NFL on short video clips, as well as the company’s reported talks with the NBA on a similar deal. We wrote on SiliconBeat that last fall, Facebook professed its love for video, with the company’s product management director for video saying in a blog post that Facebook users watched videos on the social network more than 1 billion times a day. “And we’re just getting started,” Fidji Simo wrote.
