RadioShack customer? Your data’s for sale

The personal data of millions of former RadioShack customers are listed for sale by a company handling disposal of the bankrupt electronics store.

The company’s assets are being sold by Hilco Streambank in a Chap. 11 bankruptcy auction. Listed among the assets for sale are customer files containing more than 13 million e-mail addresses and more than 65 million names and addresses.

There are several legal moves afoot to keep the data from being sold off. Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton is objecting to it as is AT&T, according to Bloomberg.

The court has appointed a “privacy ombudsman” to look at the issue, Bloomberg said.
