A detailed new report suggests Apple is making serious headway on its efforts to build a car at mysterious facilities in Sunnyvale.

Apple employees are working away on a car project, code-named Titan, which is now far beyond the concept stage, AppleInsider reported on Friday.

The tech blog launched an investigation into a Sunnyvale facility that is home to a company called SixtyEight but seems to have Apple s fingerprints all over it. Situated in an office park with several other Apple offices, the facility has a windowless repair garage. Next door, an auto work area is being constructed, according to filings reviewed by AppleInsider.

SixtyEight LLC, which is billed as a market research firm, was registered in March 2014 but has made few moves since, notably importing a 1957 Fiat Multipla 600, according to AppleInsider. The tech blog was unable to confirm ties between SixtyEight and Apple, but a sign posted on SixtyEight s front door advises that the lobby has been moved to a facility leased by the tech giant.

Speculation that an Apple car is in the works has been mounting since the Wall Street Journal and the Financial Times reported that the Cupertino-based company is eying the auto industry. At Apple s shareholder meeting on Tuesday, investors clearly had cars on the brain. Two attendees implored Apple CEO Tim Cook to buy electric car maker Tesla.

Am I insane to imagine something might happen here? one shareholder asked.

Cook dodged the questions, saying that Apple does not have a relationship with Tesla but he hopes the electric car maker will adopt Apple s CarPlay software.
