LinkedIn on Friday proposed a 1.6 million-square-foot development project that would include new office space, shops, a theater, gym and more in Mountain View.

It represents LinkedIn being able to grow in Mountain View, keeping a critical mass of teams together, and keeping greater business diversity in North Bayshore, said Doug Madey, a spokesman for LinkedIn.

The social network is partnering with the commercial real estate firm SyWest on the proposed project, which would be located on North Shoreline Boulevard and Highway 101.

Developers had until Friday to submit major projects for the city s North Bayshore technology district if they wanted to build on some of the 3.4 million square feet the city zoned for new office space.

The plans were submitted to city officials on the same day that Google unveiled plans for a new campus, which included translucent, biosphere-like canopies. But if Google s plans are approved by the city as proposed, it wouldn t leave enough room for LinkedIn s project.

Madey said the company did not have a comment about Google s proposal, but noted that the architecture in the social network s proposed plans could change.

The architecture of the buildings is still under development and we look forward to working with the city to develop more of the look of the building architecture, he said.
