Introducing Amazon’s new face: Jay Carney

His name has been floated for the top communications jobs at Apple and Uber.

But now Jay Carney is heading to Amazon to be its new senior vice president of worldwide corporate affairs, Politico reported.

Carney will give up his current post as senior political analyst at CNN to oversee the e-commerce firm’s public relations and public policy shop, Politico’s Mike Allen reported.

In recent years, the company has rapidly boosted its spending on lobbying. Last year, it spent nearly $5 million compared to about $3.5 million in 2013, according to OpenSecrets.org. The company lobbied on a range of issues including taxes.

Reporting directly to Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Carney will split his time between Seattle, where Amazon is based, and Washington, D.C. Both Paul Misener, who runs the firm’s lobbying efforts, and Craig Berman, Amazon’s public relations head, will report to Carney.

Carney left the White House last June. When his name was floated as a possible Apple top communications executive, some Apple fans deemed him too “PCish,” as in  as in the old “I’m a Mac, I’m a PC” Apple ads, as I wrote in a blog post.

How cozy. Out House, CNN and Amazon. We didn’t believe him before, so why should we believe him now?
