The tech industry is famous for disrupting traditional businesses. Now, it s the car s turn.
After years of being treated as a side business by Silicon Valley, as the New York Times put it, the car is having its moment. The tech giants such as Google and Apple are zeroing in. Apple with CarPlay and Google with Android Auto are battling to rule the dashboard.
And as I wrote last week, there is intense speculation around Apple s plans to make its own car, slated out in 2020.
One theory is that Apple will buy Tesla, as Business Insider recommended. But given the company reportedly has hired about 200 car-related people for its Project Titan, it s hard to imagine that s just to get up to speed before making the purchase.
Tim Bajarin, the tech analyst, in a piece for PC Magazine, wrote that making a car, or a TV set for that matter, isn t part of Apple s DNA:
