Hoping to burnish Yahoo s mobile credentials and build excitement for the company s turnaround, CEO Marissa Mayer is hosting a gathering of more than 1,000 mobile app developers in San Francisco today.
Mobile at Yahoo went from being a hobby, with just 50 people working on it (when Mayer arrived in 2012), to more than a quarter of our business last year, and we d like to help you do the same, Mayer told the crowd Thursday morning.
The renovated Nob Hill Masonic Center, a stopover for rock acts from Ringo Starr to Sleater-Kinney and The Replacements, not to mention Obama campaign fundraisers, was decked out in Yahoo purple for the all-day conference.
Mayer has said she plans to launch some products at the event, most of them likely catering to developers who want to attract more users and make money from the apps they create.
We ll have updates later today at the Mercury News.
