The Apple Store may soon be teeming with fashion geniuses.

Tech blog 9to5Mac reported on Monday that Apple is trying to hire staffers for its retail stores this month with a fashion or luxury background, citing internal hiring documents. Apple appears to be trying to bring the sartorial crowd on board before the long-awaited Apple Watch hits stores early next year, according to 9to5Mac.

While Apple Store employees are known more for their tech smarts their fashion senses – most days, they can be found sporting royal blue t-shirts with Apple logos – the chic new hires will be in good company. Angela Ahrendts, Apple s senior vice president of retail and online stores, is well-suited to set a fashionable tone from the top, having served as CEO of luxury brand Burberry before joining the tech wizards at One Infinite Loop.

The recruiting push is likely just one of many efforts Apple is undertaking to ready its stores for its first wearable gadget. Coming in two sizes and three collections, the watch will require considerable space in the Apple Store and also call on employees to deliver a different type of customer service. The product s arrival is the perfect occasion for Apple to revamp its stores, which have seen few significant changes since they debuted 13 years ago, Customer Growth Partners President Craig Johnson told the Mercury News last month.

If they need to have a new section for the Apple Watch, that s not a problem, that s an opportunity, he said. They ll come up with something new and creative and fun and funky and interesting. My bet is people will flock to it.
