No one ever said it would be cheap to build a spaceship in Cupertino.
Eye-popping price tags have started to surface for some of the facilities in the massive Apple Campus 2 project. Apple is spending a cool $161 million to build a grand theater on its campus, according to building permits obtained by BuildZoom. We can already picture the majestic product events that might one day take place there. But will the stage be to Bono s liking?
BuildZoom also revealed that Apple is constructing a $74 million fitness facility on the donut-shaped campus, an offering that may help the company stand out in the Valley s ever-intensifying war for talent.
Apple has budgeted about $5 billion overall for the campus, giving it plenty of resources to dream up lavish facilities. The construction of the campus is expected to be completed in 2016.
