Microchip sales recorded a healthy gain in October, and appear headed for somewhat less but steady growth over the next few years, according to the Semiconductor Industry Association.

The group reported Tuesday that worldwide chip sales for the month hit $29.7 billion, an increase of 9.6 percent from the same month a year ago and 1.5 percent higher than last month s total.

For all of 2014, the group estimated that worldwide sales will reach $333.2 billion, a 9 percent bump from 2013. It also predicted global sales will total $344.5 billion in 2015, representing a 3.4 percent increase, and $355.3 billion in 2016, an increase of 3.1 percent.

Sales continue to be strong across the board, with nearly all regions and product categories exhibiting increases, said the group s CEO, Brian Toohey, in a press release.
