David McCandless, a London-based journalist, writer, designer and number-cruncher extraordinaire, has sunk his teeth into the gender gap that is Silicon Valley these days.
In a very cool (if slightly depressing) graphic, McCandless and his colleagues at Information Is Beautiful have broken down the workforces at leading tech companies by gender and ethnicity, leaving us a crystal-clear snapshot of what’s good and not so good about the way the Valley’s icons build their staffs.

I’m David McCandless, a London-based author, writer and designer. I’ve written for The Guardian, Wired and others. I’m into anything strange and interesting.
These days I’m an independent and . A passion of mine is visualizing information – facts, data, ideas, subjects, issues, statistics, questions – all with the minimum of words.
I’m interested in how designed information can help us understand the world, cut through BS and reveal the hidden connections, patterns and stories underneath. Or, failing that, it can just look cool!
