We’ve got a couple of pieces of Facebook items for your news feed.

First, if you’ve ever wished to separate your personal and work Facebook accounts, that may soon be a reality. The Financial Times reports that Facebook is working on Facebook for Work. (But here’s the subscription-not-required link to the BBC‘s article.) Besides the oh-so-exciting profile-separation possibility, the network would allow for workplace collaboration, including chat and document sharing. Also, it might mean those who aren’t allowed to use Facebook at work will finally get a chance to do so.

Could Facebook at Work spell an end to the reign of LinkedIn as the professional social network? Investors seem spooked. Shares of LinkedIn are down more than 5 percent.

Meanwhile, in News Feed news — and aren’t we forever trying to figure out how the News Feed works? — Facebook says it will soon limit promotional posts that appear in users’ feeds. According to Bloomberg, the company is touting this change as one meant to improve user experience. But of course, it will also mean that if brands want their ads and marketing to appear in people’s news feeds, the number of Likes they have may not mean a thing. They’re going to have to pay up.

“Every day it becomes more and more clear that Facebook has abandoned social marketing, and is just a place to buy old-fashioned ads,” Nate Elliott, an analyst at Forrester Research, told Bloomberg.
