The U.S. Federal Trade Commission is querying Apple about the security of consumers data as the company intensifies a push into mobile health, according to a report from Reuters.

Reuters reported Thursday that the FTC has met with Apple various times in recent months to make sure that health data gathered by the forthcoming Apple Watch and other Apple gadgets will not be shared with third-parties without users OK. Apple spokeswoman Trudy Muller told Reuters the company is collaborating with a variety of regulators on data protection.

We ve been very encouraged by their support, she told Reuters.

Reuters reported that the FTC does not appear to be launching an investigation into Apple s practices.

The Apple Watch, set for an early 2015 release, will step up Apple s forray into the burgeoning field of mobile health. The device, which has a strong fitness component, comes equipped with sensors that can monitor users activity levels and heart rates. Apple also recently launched HealthKit, which allows health and fitness apps to share data, while safeguarding all sensitive information.

We designed HealthKit with privacy in mind, Muller told Reuters.
