Symantec, which announced last month that it s splitting into two companies, will lay off up about 10 percent of its workforce, it announced Wednesday along with second-quarter earnings.
The Mountain View-based company, maker of Norton antivirus software, has more than 21,500 employees worldwide, according to its website. Symantec s breakup, which will split its security and data-storage businesses, is expected to be completed by the end of next year.
The company s shares are down nearly 1 percent today after its second-quarter sales and third-quarter revenue forecast missed estimates.
